Last year, I was excited to observe 1-2 swallow-tailed kites soaring over the house a couple times. This year, in the past few days, I've seen 3 kites land in the pine tree by the front of our house and, today, there were two soaring above the maple tree in the back yard. I haven't seen them attack any smaller feeder birds, or eating one, but why else would they be hanging out? Pretty cool to see them, regardless.
Hi Jan. What a cool visitor.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the other birds have much to worry about as they are mainly insect eaters (catch and eat on the wing) plus lizards from the tree trunks (per http://birds.audubon.org/birds/swallow-tailed-kite).
