Three Kites

Last year, I was excited to observe 1-2 swallow-tailed kites soaring over the house a couple times. This year, in the past few days, I've seen 3 kites land in the pine tree by the front of our house and, today, there were two soaring above the maple tree in the back yard. I haven't seen them attack any smaller feeder birds, or eating one, but why else would they be hanging out? Pretty cool to see them, regardless.

  1. Hi Jan. What a cool visitor.

I don't think the other birds have much to worry about as they are mainly insect eaters (catch and eat on the wing) plus lizards from the tree trunks (per http://birds.audubon.org/birds/swallow-tailed-kite).
